The history of the university dates back to 1948, when the Kaluga State Pedagogical Institute was founded on the basis of the teacher’s institute. In 2010, the university became a classical university. An integral part of the activities of the Kaluga State University named after K.E. Tsiolkovsky is a scientific work in which students are actively involved. Priority scientific areas are: biology, history, mathematics, pedagogy, psychology, sociology, physics, ecology, linguistics. Higher educational institution in Obninsk, which was founded in 1985 on the basis of the Obninsk branch of the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute. The University trains graduate students, masters, bachelors and specialists for Russia and abroad in the most relevant areas of development of fundamental, applied science and modern technologies. IATE NRNU MEPhI is closely tied with enterprises of the Kaluga region. To meet the personnel needs of the region, the institute trains highly qualified physicists, chemists, engineers, programmers, medical workers, entrepreneurs, economists, and managers. Since the formation in 1830 of the Moscow Handicraft Educational Institution IMTU-MVTU-MGTU named after N.E. Bauman trained more than 200 thousand engineers. The Kaluga branch was established on April 20, 1959. It made a great contribution to the development of Russian science and technology, to the creation and development of high-tech industries– machine-building, instrument-making, aviation, rocket and space, nuclear, defense, information technologies. MSTU named after N.E. Bauman in 1989 was the first in the country to receive the status of a Technical University. More than 30 universities and research institutes have been formed on the basis of MSTU. The State Autonomous Educational Institution was established in 2011 with the support of the regional government. It offers training programs for all levels of personnel.
